Site Downgrade

Dear all,

I've just checked the stats and although we're paying for a 250 user community, only 25 people have logged in in the past 6 months.

Because of this, I'm going to contact 21Publish (the hosts) and downgrade Platform27 to their freebie 100 user account (there's no point in paying for something that we don't need!)

There is no change in functionality, and everything should carry on as before...

To those of you still regularly using the site - thanks!

Old Accounts / Housekeeping

Hello one and all,

As you may or may not be aware, we currently pay 21Publish $19.00 per month to host this community, which allows us up to 250 members, as opposed to their free package for up to 100 members.

A quick check of the stats shows that out of the 250 members, only 103 actually logged on in the past 12 months.

Given that the site is paid for out of your donations to the Tip Jar, it seems foolish to actually be paying for an extra 150 members who never visit any more. After all, it's your money that is paying for this place, so no point in throwing it away!

So I plan to email all users and suggest that any accounts not logged into for 12 months+ will be deleted. Then once we've had a tidy up, we can look at what size package we actually need...

21Publish's price packages are as follows:-

100 users with 2Mb storage space and advertising = Free
100 users with 2Mb storage space and NO advertising = £19.90 per month
250 users with 2Mb storage space and advertising = $19.00 per month (current package)

Tip Jar contents
PayPal = £103.65
NoChex = £27.94
Total = £131.59 - approximately 1 year's fees

Account Housekeeping

Dear Platform27 Users

As you may (or may not) be aware, Platform27 is funded by donations, which cover the monthly hosting fees.

The hosting package we have at the moment ($19 per month) allows us to have a maximum of 250 users, which we have now reached. This leaves two options open to us, either upgrade to the 500 user package ($49 a month), or see if we can clear out any unused accounts

Out of our current 250 users, 89 accounts have not been logged into in the past 6 months. 37 of these have not been touched in over a year.

So rather than jump up to the next hosting package, and spend 250% more than we do at the moment, I'd rather see if we can remove some of these unused accounts. My plan is to delete any accounts that have not been touched for 6 months, at the end of July.

If you have not used your Platform27 account recently, and want to make sure you keep it, all you need to do is log in at least once before the end of the month...

I will then carry out some housekeeping, and delete any accounts that have not been accessed in the past 6 months.

Thanks for your understanding, and thanks for choosing Platform27!

Support

Hello everyone,

I've been having some problems with the Platform27 email address, which means I've not been getting many of the emails being sent to me of late. This has (quite rightly) concerned several of you, and I can only apologise.

This post is just to remind you of the different ways that are open to you to get help with your blog...

If you just want some advice on using your blog, please post a question on The Bubble - it may be something that one of your fellow bloggers has already come across and be able to help you with. As long as you are logged in, you should be able to post an entry there, just like you do on your own blog.

If your problem is more technical, please check the extensive help pages listed in the support section.

If that doesn't help please feel free to email me directly. I will try and help where I can, or contact 21Publish on your behalf.

Finally, to contact 21Publish directly, please complete this form.   21Publish will email you a 'ticket number' and get back to you as soon as your problem has been resolved.

Thanks,

 Kevling

External Blog - Requests

There seems to be a few random issues with people's external blogs not showing up. The problem now seems to be fixed - just be aware of two things:-

  1. that your external blog needs to offer a 'feed' (RSS) so that Platform27 can pick it up
  2. external blogs will only appear in the update list once we've authorised them (just to make sure they're OK)

If you've added one in the past week or so, and it doesn't seem to be working, please add a comment below and I'll look into it for you...
