F**king facebook*
I now know more people in the virtual world than I do in real life and I haven't even started updating it.
Also, what is this real name thing? Like a name is important.
*I, of course, never swear!

How about them apples
I haven't blogged here for a few days. I know that this makes me a dirty, stinking, blog traitor with no more right to lick the boots of honest, hard working Platform 27ers. Well, it's true. I'm scum. Please punish me by throwing fruit or money at me....or cake.
Anyway rather than wait until I had something decent to say I thought I'd pop along and discuss the humble apple. I much prefer Granny Smith's apples to any other variety but will eat the others if Granny Smith's aren't available. However I draw the line at devouring the apple core. My first born, Snarly, eats the entire apple from stem to core and all the flesh. She takes ages to munch through one where I like to take half a dozen big bites and then trim the core with my sharp teeth.
How do you eat your apples?
So very true

Well it's been some time since my last blog entry. I have been awfully busy over the past few months which has led to a whole dearth of blogging time. It's all very sad. Anyway I thought I would share a tale of stupidity with you all over here and tell you about the people in the new office. The stupid people.
You may be aware that I've recently kitted out a swanky new office with wizzy new computers, posh phone system and super go fast servers. If you weren't aware then you are now. The servers are really very cool, the sort of machines that techies like me occasionally dream about while cursing the cheapo crud that were usually forced to buy. However servers are made up of delicate and very sensitive electronic components. Like me they need to be kept cool and generally like to be left alone to get on with their jobs.
On Wednesday (while I was on holiday) I got a phone call from the new office telling me that they had not had network connectivity, e-mail or t'Internet since Monday. Rather than ringing the ISP, the network company who provide the snazzy Cisco routers or even me she decided to try restarting the servers. Instead of clicking on the Start...\Shutdown icon she thought she'd just switch it off. However the off button eluded her so she decided just to unplug the servers. Bear in mind please that we spend thousands of pounds on a UPS system to prevent the servers from just shutting off in case of a power failure.
When she phoned I may have done a little shouting and when I see her I am going to confiscate her server room key. I may stab her with it.
It wasn't the server anyway, it was a redundant NAT entry in the router config. So, now you know.

Anyway, now I'm back at work and I genuinely think that I prefer spending my holiday time painting, tiling a loo, fixing a wooden bath panel onto a bath, tiling two floors, emptying my house of all it's clutter and making several trips to the dump to working. Blogging excluded of course.
We have an estate agent coming round at 2pm to value our house. It'd better be a lot after all the work of the last few weeks. It really had. That way I'll be able to afford the new FIVE bedroom house that I've put an offer in for. Yes, that's one room for each child. The Hildy and I will still have to share (he he).
What have I missed?

Several Months Late
Suggested by the stunning Michelle:
13 things in the room that you are in right now:
- A green mug.
- A Cisco free pen that has a magic blue light that comes on when you click the end. It's great, like a Doctor Who sonic screwdriver that writes.
- A post it note asking me to "Please do the scanner. Please! Please! Thanks".
- A grey CAT5e network cable.
- A hammer. Obviously for percussive maintenance issues.
- A stack of inspirational pictures that need to go up on the walls. You know the sort.
- My swishy new laptop. It's an HP Compaq nx9420 and is much better than my old one.
- The most beautiful server I have ever had the pleasure of working on. It's 1U and shiny.
- A pile of software licences. Somewhere in there is the Office 2007 OEM installation CD. I hope.
- My shoes. My lovely new green trainers with the slightly too long green laces.
- My travelling expenses. At nearly £50 a day I'd quite like this money back.
- My phone. It's a Blackberry 8700f and it really does stop me from getting away from work. Curse you!
- A 4Gb flash memory stick that I keep calling a pen.
Anyway. I should be finished in a bit and then I can go home and do DIY with The Hildy. What have I missed while I've been working?
