Film Frenzy

A couple of films last week as I've had a bit of time. I also found out that I can have five films for a week for a fiver from the vid shop.

Last week I checked out King Kong & Underworld Evolution.

King Kong was 'OK' but didn't really suck me in. I had a break half way through to make a snack, turned the radio on thinking to catch the news & ended up listening to a comedy programme for half an hour. I obviously didn't want to get back to the film that much.
It seemed to take forever for them to get to the Island & by the time they'd buggered about on the island I just wanted them to get back to New York so the big ape could fall off the tower.
There were some nice touches. Jack Blacks mercenary streak being one & I did like the cannibal voodoo nature of the natives. The scenes for the video game became kind of tedious though. The scenes for the video game? Yeah you know. The stuff they throw into films that will make a level in the video game of the film. The Brontosaurus stampede. The car chased by Kong scene. If they're not in the video game they should be, other wise why are they in the film?

Snack rating?:
On the whole kind of unsatisfying, a bit like candy floss.

Underworld Evolution on the other hand really did draw me in. A good sequel, that continued the story alolng to my satisfaction. Nice fast pace. Nice continuation of a modern mythology. Super action/fight scenes & monster effects. Kate Beckinsale in tight vynyl helped the film along as well :)
It does make me laugh though that spotty Goths scooting along in bright sunlight think that a long leather coat looks as cool as it does in a film. It's never going to flow in slow motion you saddoe. That's a filmic effect.

Snack Rating?:
Black pudding slices. If you like sausage made of blood. Dig in.

This evening was Pizza & the five for a fiver offer. So far (before leaving the 'puter running its virus check & then heading for the pub for a pint & to type this) I've watched I've watched Starship troopers 2 & Equilibrium.

Starship troopers 2 worked. Just. Not as good as the first though. I'm biased about that though. I enjoyed the book & liked the way they'd handled the first film. Just the right amount of Heinleins Fascism, sorry libertarianism & top rendering of the bugs.
2 became a bit... Is it team America were they go on about 'feelings'? You know what I mean. The rubbish way they tend to handle characterisation & emotion in U.S. TV adventure series by putting over wordy scenes in were the characters explain how they... feel to each other *yawn*
Not bad, although the plot is kind of like Alien, but without the claustrophobic tension.

Snack Rating?:
Jelly Spiders. A bit of fun, kind of tangy, cheap & cheerful. You wouldn't want to eat them every day though.

Next up was Equilibrium. Again it worked. Just. Some nice referencing of Farenheit 451 (the Film) with the costumes & the burning stuff. Some nice referencing of Brave New World (The Book) with the 'T' being a prominent symbol. I suspect there is a touch of wizard of Oz in there as well. Some top gun/sword fight scenes in a Manga matrix stylee. Worth watching for the 2 minutes or so of explication, explination of the 'Gun kata'. I also enjoyed the sheer cheek of repeating the first part of the film twice cf the Sean Bean character. You'll have to watch it to see what I mean.
The basic concept of the film was kind of flawed at heart though. As I suspect feelings are required for a person to want to achieve something & to practice Gun Katas I suspect you have to have some sense of achievment.

Snack Rating?:
Pickled Onions, pickled eggs, Olives & red cabbage. All things I like, but I'm not really sure I want them all at the same time. Worth trying though.

Anyway. Back from the pub & time for the next film.

Some Random thoughts on a hot summer night.

Police helicopter activity yesterday evening. Then returning some DVDs to the rental place tonight, an un-marked police car sitting on the forecourt of a garage closed for the night. Walking to the pub just now, a plod car sliding quietly down the street. OK maybe it's a good thing, a police presence. Keeps the bad people at bay. It also makes me worry that "something is going down in the 'hood"

This got me thinking. Why don't the criminals use 'stingers' on the police. Being chased by the police? Phone your mates to fetch the stinger. Arrange to run past a certain point & get them to deploy it over the road in the path of the pursuers. Obviously there will be a phone record of your call to a number during the chase. So it makes it dodgy for the person receiving the call & acting as an accomplice. Could be a nice idea for a GTA scenario/level though. You have to be the stinger guy in a mission. Once you've done the mission you can call up a return on the favour.

Whilst we're on the subject of criminality. Is it possible to source a document to a particular printer? In the olden days you could source a document to a specific type writer, because of the wear & tear on the... the... whatever the bit is called that makes the impression. The Ribbon was also a bit of an incriminating item, as it retains everything ever typed on it.

I think there is some sort of memory cache in a printer. How long does it retain this? I know that forensic computing is an important field now. Each batch of ink must have a slightly different composition that I suppose could be used to say that a document was printed from a certain batch of ink. How many thousands of cartridges are in a batch though? Maybe there are characteristics of the feed mechananism that can leave an impression on the paper.

Anyway. If you're a budding crime writer/film maker/game designer etc. Please feel free to think about these ideas as a plot device. If you use them & you make a shit pile of money. Bung a bit my way please :)

Testing again

The signature thing this time. Obviously the question marks in the post below show that some of the symbols didn't work.

The bit below is the sig. It maybe needs a bit of work.

Ooooh! Curious

I just mis-keyed the key board on my Nokia 9300 & found the symbols & mathematical characters. Lets see if they work when I send them in an E-mail from it to this blog.

Texas?

No. East Park Wolverhampton. The Wolvestock Country music festival. I may see John Prescott wearing his cowboy outfit. If he was, he'd fit in well here. Wonder if he can line dance?

Magical Garden Wonderland

OK the picture is rather shoddy, but it's the view from my hammock, back towards the house of the garden illuminated with about 15 nightlights.

As it's so warm I shall be sleeping out here tonight. The only thing that bothers me is I may get bitten by insects. "So it goes" as a great man once said.

The Stars are wheeling overhead & it's time to fetch another glass of wine.

I'm no Brad Pitt...

Where the hell is cha0tic?

The Lamb & Flag Cannock. With a pal who's in a club/coverband. What the hell am I doing here on a busmans holiday? I do live music for work. Why the hell am I doing it for a night off? (We did have a good curry & chat though)
It's a gorgeous evening & there's something really clear about the quality of the light. Normally hot weather brings on a haziness to the atmosphere. I don't know if it's because of the breeze, which maybe a function of the altitude or what.
The picture doesn't really show the un-natural clarity of the atmosphere. The camera lies like a police informer.
I'm stoppping outside to enjoy the view as long as possible.

Day off

A day off, slept in late & answered a couple of phone calls. Then off to the launderette. Standing outside having a ciggy & I'm accosted by the missus of one of our chaps. Normally I catch her by surprise, the tables were turned & she caught me by surprise. So a tasty beverage was suggested & in order.

Her chap had finished on site today & should've been back by now. He was. He'd been dropped off & fallen asleep. He later joined us in the beer garden of my local. Who needs the Mediterreanean when you've got a proper British summer & a beer garden?

We've been joined by the Titanium Badger & his new wife, both top people. A warm summer evening in a pub garden. Who could ask for more?

Back stage incident.

A group of nearly pretty lasses, probably fan club or competition winners, are stood in a semi circle with cameras. Our hero, cha0tic, enters the backstage compound on his way to the toilet & is confronted by them. He smiles, waves & poses in an ironic manner. Pretending they're waiting for him. They giggle. He continues on his way, finishes his business & hangs out with his work mates, appraising the lasses.

The Star Turn appear out of the dressing room compound to screams of adulation from the the waiting fans. The Star Turn are all dressed in white. The fans approach The Star Turn for autographs & photos.
"What have they got that I don't?"
Ponders cha0tic to his colleague.
"White Clothes?" suggests his colleague. Cha0tic removes his once beige, nearly white bush hat & looks at it significantly. It is grimey from a months handling with filthy hands. It used to be the same colour as The Star Turns clothes.

He then answers his own retorical question.
"They've got shit loads of money & clean hands. Must be the clean hands."

It's good to be back home...

...Sort of. Spent today sleeping in & moping about the house & popping in to do a little job at the end of the day. Still not had chance to do any food shopping. So the genius idea of popping down to my local for some food & a couple of tasty beverages. They do particularly tasty beverages & excellent food.

Sloped tiredly into my usual room, the smoke room, ordered some food & noticed they'd taken down the no smoking 'til 21:00 sign. Yippee! they've seen sense at last. Sit wearily down with my pint of Thatchers & roll a ciggy. As soon as I'm finished a smug ex smoker (I'm a regular here, he recognises me & I recognise him.) comes out with:
"Excuse me, there's no smoking 'til 09:30" (said in that self satisfied, smug ex smoking way)
Liar! it was 21:00.
I reply "Oh? They've taken the sign down. I assumed they'd gone back to being normal" & strolled out for my cig.

Yes I know it's expensive, bad for me & unpleasant for none smokers, but this pub & particularly The Smoke Room. Is my refuge, my quiet time, my escape & relaxation.

I might wait outside the pub & batter the smug cunt round his head with a bit of four by two when he leaves. Just to make myself feel better :) lol

No I haven't dropped off the face of the world...

...I've been working away near Leeds, a place called Harewood House, that had

two weekends of Music.

So a quick round up in no particular order.

The Good Bits

  • Watching Red Kites dive, wheel, soar & glide over the site.

  • Seeing a Spitfire Fly lower than The Big House.

  • Having time to meet up with Lil' Sis' for a meal & a good chat

  • Having time to meet up with Beachhutman, even if it was only a short

    while.

  • Excellent lunchtime meals at The Harewood Arms Hotel. Check it out, it's

good. Plus it's a Sam Smiths house, therefore good beer Very

    good beer at sensible prices.

  • Being out of wolverhampton.

  • Being outdoors for most of the day.

  • working with some good people.

  • Blogging via my mobile phone.

  • Seeing different plants in the roadside verges.

  • Noticing a change in the natural world. Elderflower was in full bloom

when we first arrived & had all but gone when we left.

  • Getting a tramps/site tan.

  • Texting Casualty.

  • Getting back to Wolverhampton.

  • Finding some good take-aways in Headingley.

  • Seeing lots of Hares.

The Bad Bits

  • Missing seeing 'The Stranglers' with Miss Mish

  • The fact that you had to constantly ask for Mustard at breakfast in the

hotel & it wasn't just 'there' like it should be. The lack of Tabasco &

    Worcester Sauce at breakfast.

  • Long hours.

  • The garden getting re-overgrown whilst I was away.

  • Getting online being difficult.

  • Blogging via my mobile phone & not being able to read other blogs

regularly, or see if anyone has commented.

  • working with some bad people.

  • Not taking enough photos

  • Falling asleep on the train on the way home & having to spend seventy

quid on a taxi to get home so I could go to work the next day.

  • Missing reading blogs.

  • Not being able to go for a pint with Bro' & SIL after they finish work on

    a Friday.

  • Missing 'The Archers' & the 18:30 Comedy spot on Radio 4.

  • Not seeing anything of The Big House & Gardens.

The Music? That wasn't important at all.

Bakin'

Lathered in factor 25 in a field with little shade. Maybe I should've cut slits in my skin, put garlic in Then rubbed a mixture of olive oil & salt over my self. At least by the end of the afternoon I'd be nicely flavoured & have good crackling. :)

Diary of a bruise 3

Fading fast two pictures today one with my arm outstretched. The other with my arm bent gives some idea of the position my arm was in when I bruised it. Sitting in the passenger seat of a transit resting my arm on the door with the window open.

Lots of stuff going off site today. Scaff' truck turned up a day early, so running around like a Blue Arsed Fly (BAF) this morning. Crew from another site called wanting the vynyl a day early. So that intensified the BAF action.

Late lunch then, & back to bake some more in the gorgeous blazing sun. The tramps/site tan is coming along nicely. I might have to do a bit of attention whoring & take semi-nude pictures to show it off. Well if Ska Girl can I suppose I can.

I still haven't seen the penguins.
