The little book

that I've mentioned a couple of times recently is anything but, being a foot square, an inch and a half thick and weighing a lot!

The Aviation Book - The World's Aircraft A-Z by Fia O Caoimh is quite simply a magnificent publication. Some 450 aircraft, from all eras and of all types, are shown in over 900 black and white illustrations. There is an amazing diversity of unusual, or forgotten, types which includes some truly eccentric aviation gems.

There is a section showing the full technical specfications of all the aircraft, as well as a preface, introduction, timeline of aviation, glossary, further reading, index and acknowledgments.

The aircraft include that most prolific of all airliners, the Boeing 737, and the wonderfully named, never heard of before, de Pischoff Flycycle.

The Republic SeaBee has two consecutive entries which seemed rather odd until I read the second entry...Some old classics are so good that you cannot resist drawing them twice...

I open it and a find terrific drawing of a Shin Meiwa US-1. I mentally appaud the author illustrator's detailing then read the text. This aircraft fascinates me but is one that I'm never likely to see unless I visit Japan.

I may spend a few minutes or hours looking at, and reading, this book's 352 pages knowing that I shall be doing so often for a very long time to come.

I'm sure that I'll be mentioning The_Aviation_Book again, as there are types such as the CASA CN235 and North American F-86 Sabre  that I may well be doing entries about some time.

You have your reading work cut out for you but I know you will get great enjoyment from it.
Yu may need to reinforce your coffee table legs. :)
(Please forgive me for not reading your last entry yet. I don't want to comment until I have had a good read and a look at the links/pics. I didn't finish on Friday until after 6pm .xx)

Arty two classic, and now very rare, types. I'm not even sure that I've ever seen a SeaBee!

Feathers it's not a book that I'll read through cover to cover but dip in and out of it often.
(Of course I do. I hope that you enjoy it.
That was late!)

Arty that would be much more sensible, but a lot less fun!

Good day from Dublin, Ireland.
I am delighted that you are enjoying The Aviation Book. I've had a lot of fun over many years flying and drawing aircraft and "The Little Book" just about sums up my adventures to date.
Do feel free to visit the website as follows:

Kind regards,
Fia O Caoimh.

Fia hello! Many thanks for your unexpected, but very welcome, comment.
I generally open 'The Little Book' at random most days and have a browse for five minutes whilst drinking a cup of tea. I think that it's a wonderful publication which I shall enjoy well into the future. There's no doubt that I shall refer to it again in future aviation entries that I do on my blogs.
