Flighty

Sadly the Great Community here has become a noticably dwindling one in recent months.

I've found it increasing hard to do entries here and I've now reached the difficult decision to stop.

As regular readers will know I have various blogs and as part of this decision I'm making Flighty’s Plot my primary blog, with MrFlighty my other active one.

Flighty, like BookBuffs and FlightBuff, will become inactive but will not be deleted.

My thanks to everyone who has stopped by to read this blog, and especially to those of you who have commented and given me stars, of which I have just the one left.

I will continue to stop by here to read various blogs and no doubt comment regularly.

Thanks, it's been great fun...Flighty.

Repeats and new series

The Blue Planet 2/8 The Deep continues at the later (and for me better) time of 7.00pm Saturday on BBC2. 3/8 Open Oceans is on BBC2 Sunday at 6.00pm.

I missed the first part of Michael Palin's New Europe last week but I shall catch up with it on Saturday when it's being repeated at 8.30pm on BBC2. 2/8 Eastern Delight is being shown on BBC1 Sunday at 9.00pm.

A new series of the well worth watching Nature's Calendar can be seen on weekday evenings at 6.30pm on BBC2. Chris Packham explores the UK's most scenic autumnal walks.

I've mentioned the Natures Calendar book before and do so again as I think that it is an excellent publication.

Another new series, of six, that might prove to be of more than passing interest is The History Detectives which starts tomorrow on BBC2 at 7.30pm. This first programme starts with a cat food tin that has links to the Second World War, and a photograph that leads to revolutionary Russia.

Fellow 27er Chippy celebrates his birthday today, so let's all wish him well and raise a glass to him. Cheers!

Have a good weekend !

This year

Thursday 4th October is National Poetry Day with the theme Dreams, which I think is a really good subject.

Hopefully I will be doing an appropriate entry on all my blogs, including this one.

This is the entry that I did here on Flighty last year.

I hope that on the day everyone will join in the fun by doing an entry, or at least commenting on blogs that do.

Here , there and everywhere

The excellent series The Blue Planet is being repeated on BBC2 starting Saturday at 5.30pm with 1/9 which introduces the creatures that inhabit the ocean's depths.

A new series is Michael Palin's New Europe starting Sunday on BBC1 at 9.00pm with 1/6 War and Peace. The adventurer heads for once mysterious countries that were for much of his life hidden behind the Iron Curtain. This week sees him in Albania, Bosnia and Croatia.

Great British Journeys 6/8 Daniel Defoe's Tour through the Whole Island of Great Britain is on BBC2 Tuesday at 8.00pm, and repeated Thursday at 7.00pm. Nicholas Crane follows the footsteps of the author of Robinson Crusoe who travelled the country reflecting on his greatest obsession - money.

If you intend making the most of the continuing good weather by going out and about then here's When To Watch Wildlife's September Highlights.

Have a good weekend !

Mostly favourites !

Tomorrow sees Bill Oddie's Top 10 Birds on BBC2 at 7.30pm. The nation's favourite bird watcher counts down the UK's most admired, and villainous, birds. He also reveals how some of these would not win a popularity contest in the avian world.

My own favourites include owls and I recently came across The Owl Pages which is an excellent site all about these fascinating and wonderful birds.

Wild Mallorca is a half hour documentary being shown again on BBC2 Sunday at 6.30pm. The programme shows the unique, and increasingly endangered, wildlife of this Balearic Island including midwife toads, black vultures, loggerhead turtles and purple swamp hens.

It's the last Britain's Favourite View on ITV Sunday at 8.00pm which will show the four views from which viewers will pick the nation's favourite view. Any guesses as to which one it will be ?

I rarely mention radio programmes but this one caught my eye when I was looking through the Radio Times.

A new series of Nature starts on BBC Radio 4 Monday at 9.00pm with 1/8 The Sounds of Britain - Wicken Fen. This captures the atmosphere of Britain's oldest nature reserve on a single day in May.

Have a good weekend !
