Operation Garage: Part Deux
Spent all morning and a lot of the afternoon up in the attic above the garage. The new stairs which replaced the old stairs were 3.5 inches narrower than the original stairs. This meant that a lot of the boxes that went up nicely, didn't come down nicely. This mostly meant that I had to unpack them upstairs and make repeated trips down the ladder to the garage floor. I certainly got my exercise toady.
Found all sorts of goodies like my 40-year old daughter's drawings she made when age 7, loads of stuffed toys with missing eyes and noses, etc. I also found out where old suitcases go to die --> up in my attic. I brought down seven of them. All in need of some repair or other.
Also had numerous boxes of clothes that are right in fashion if Disco comes back. You know -- bellbottom polyester, and daishikis.
It has been very, very hot this week. Today it was probably over 90 in the attic, but nice down in the garage. It even rained just a tiny bit about 1300. I don't understand where all that rain over across the pond is coming from. Usually, the weather we have here hits the UK in about 7 or 8 days. My last rain (real rain, not piddle) was almost two weeks ago. The rest of the time it has been sunny and warm/hot. Chippy says the rain is amost never ending there. Must be some sort of conspiracy.
Two days ago I had one of those "chain" things happen. The one where you start out getting one thing done and end up following a chain of tasks all over the place. I started with trying to fix a pucture in the rear wheel of my bicycle. No problem, you say. This inner tube had some sort of self-sealant in it that was horribly nasty and oozed out of the hole and kept the cement from sticking on the patch. So, I drive over to the bicycle shop and pick up a new tube. I get back and install it, pump it up, and take the bike for a spin. Just as I am shifting into high gear, the damn shifter separates into two parts and drops to the pavement. Since high gear, and slow pedalling don't go together, I had to walk home (less than a mile thank goodness). Off to the bicyle shop again for a new shifter. "Egad! You have what we in the business call a 'non-regulation' shifter for that Huffy." OK, says I, how long to order it. "Two weeks sez he". Nuts, says I. "But, I have something here that will fit nicely" sez he. I ended up getting a new 6-sproket shifter and a new center-sproket shifter for the three gear changes on the pedal shaft for the price of a replacement shifter.
Back in the garage I now am fitting the new shifters to the bike. All went well. The moral is: why spend the energy to pedal all over town when it is easier to just get in the car and drive.
Later.
