Holy Population Explosion, Batman!

Wow!  We have 5 adults and 6 kids in the house now.  Very much hubbubb.  At least the older kids can help with the younger ones.

Nice weather here now.  The rain went away (as well as the tornados) and now the sun is shining through.  A bit on the cloudy side, but that helps to keep the temperature down.  Yesterday it topped 87 degrees.

Waxahachie is a pretty nice place.  I don't know if I would want to move here, but it is certainly a good place to visit.  You have to travel for about 30 minutes to an hour to get to anywhere great to shop though.  Most of the traveling is on an Interstate though which helps - but not during rush hours.  Both Dallas and Fort Worth are close (North) and one can get into the plains by going in almost any other direction.  I haven't explored very much though.  I'd like to find a nice lake.

Trains run here almost continuously.  I was hovering around a strangely built X-crossing with siding and spur taking pictures, when a MOW (maintennance of way) truck parked and a guy went into the signalling shack.  Pretty soon the roadway gates lowered and a huge train (around 150 cars) groaned by.  It was being pulled by three diesel units and contained nothing but coal hoppers.  Finally, two pusher engines brought up the rear.  I got loads of pictures.

At night I can hear the freights whooting by on a track that runs just over US287 to the South of us.  Diesel horns simply won't replace the ghostly sound of steam whistles though.

Current mood: Mellow
